ABSTRACT:This study was designed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of valaciclovir (VLCV) for the treatment of recurrent genital herpes. The objective of this study was to evaluate the safety and efficacy of VLCV for the treatment of recurrent genital herpes, a highly contagious sexually transmitted infection (HSV).

Methods:A prospective study was conducted using a clinical study database with patients presenting at our tertiary center with herpes interviews. A total of 636 patients with genital herpes who received VLCV treatment and were followed for one year were included in the study. Patients were excluded if they had an initial herpes diagnosis within the past 6 months, had at least 1 HSV infection in their lifetime, had active genital herpes, had an HSV infection in the previous 12 months, or had a history of HSV infections in the past year. Out of the 636 patients with genital herpes, 872 (35.5%) had active herpes. Among these 872 patients, 79 (20.9%) were women and 6 (0.8%) were men. Overall, the mean age was 35.8 years. The mean duration of herpes infection was 4.4 years and the frequency of herpes infection was 1.9 cases per year. The median number of HSV infections was 4 and the median number of partners was 5. In patients with active genital herpes, VLCV treatment was associated with the following adverse reactions: headache, rash, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, nausea and abdominal pain.

Conclusions:The use of VLCV for recurrent genital herpes has been demonstrated to be associated with a lower rate of adverse reactions, which has led to the use of more frequent VLCV courses in the future. Patients who have been exposed to herpes outbreaks that persist or worsen may benefit from taking VLCV treatment.

The incidence of recurrent genital herpes is higher in women than men. The incidence of herpes virus infections in women is about 1.9 cases per million person-years. The risk for developing recurrent genital herpes is highest in men and has not been studied in women. The prevalence of herpes virus infections in women was 5.3% in the study group. In women, the risk of developing recurrent genital herpes is about 5%. It is possible that women who have sex with men (YM) will have a higher risk of developing HSV infection than women who have sex with men (YM).

In addition, the incidence of herpes labialis is similar to that of genital herpes in women. However, it is possible that HSV is also involved in the development of genital herpes and the risk of genital herpes is higher in women with HSV. However, the risk of HSV infection in women is much higher than that in men. The most common HSV infection is the genital herpes. The incidence of herpes labialis is approximately 4% in women who have sex with men. Although it is believed that the risk of HSV infection is higher in women, the risk is higher in men. The risk for HSV is higher in women with genital herpes. Women with genital herpes have a higher risk of transmission to other sites of their life. Therefore, women with genital herpes should be advised to visit their primary care physician in case of a herpes outbreak that has been associated with an HSV infection. A thorough history of sexual activity and a physical examination may be required.
